When a party celebrates local farmers, ranchers and fishermen, as well as the chefs who make it a point to use locally harvested produce and proteins in their restaurants, well then, you know it’s going to be one heck of a gathering!

On September 8, one such party, dubbed Farmers, Chefs, and Fishermen, will kick off San Diego Farm to Fork Week, and if you’re a lover of authentic farm-to-table cuisine, this is a fête you don’t want to miss. Held at the historic Mission Hills Nursery, the event will run from 4 to 7 pm and guests will enjoy bites and beverages from more than 20 chefs, vintners and other beverage makers. Ticket sales will benefit Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center. Click here for party and ticket info.

Farm to Fork San Diego was founded by farmer and restaurateur Trish Wattlington in 2016 to help other like-minded restaurant friends promote their small, independent restaurants. Today, Farm to Fork San Diego has expanded to a membership organization whose focus is to build a community of businesses and non-profits that support a local, sustainable San Diego food system.

The organization’s signature event, San Diego Farm to Fork Week, is happening September 8-15, 2019. The semi-annual celebration focuses on restaurants that purchase directly from local farmers and fishermen and gives diners the opportunity to try new restaurants or return to favorites, at affordable prices. Each restaurant determines its own dining discounts, special menu items or prix fixe menu. The week also features special farm, fish and market events like Shop Talk, a Farm to Fork San Diego networking mixer, which will be held Tuesday September 10, 2019 at Cueva Bar.

Farm to Fork San Diego is also a year round resource for locals and visitors. Participating chefs and restaurants are verified through farmers, fishermen and wineries as legitimate local sourcers. When a patron dines at a Farm to Fork San Diego restaurant, they can be assured that they’re keeping their food dollars in San Diego, supporting farm and fishing families and their workers, and reducing their contribution to greenhouse gas emissions by lowering the number of miles food travels to the plate.
